More on Drawing Techniques

Please also check the previous post on section drawing

Maps of the Same Place

Cappadocia is a unique site, where the natural and man-made environments merge into each other. Since now, students have studied spatial and tectonic formations in different scales. Cappadocia excursion aims to provide a rich discussion on how to critically observe, analyze and represent different aspects of a site. With reference to the previous experiences, and to the earlier discussions on mapping and analysis, students are going to analyze a small site in Cappadocia. As a group students are expected to discuss and decide on which qualities of the site you are going to study. They are suggested to consider important keywords such as movement, variety of activities, human scale, enclosure, different types and hierarchies of (open) spaces, materials, processes of land formation, top down (subtractive) and bottom up (aggregated) structures, tectonics.
The methods are:
-Layered Plan
-Layered Section
-Continuous Mesh Form
-Aggregate Mesh Form
-Mapping Actions

Field Trip to Cappadocia // Mapping Ürgüp

We've been to Cappadocia for the studio excursion!

Fabricating Landscape

This exercise starts with the exploration of geological structures and the physical forces that shape them for the study of the concepts of field and aggregation. These studies will then be utilized to form the assembly of an abstract landscape to be shaped by a spatial agenda.

Event Structures

Students are expected to design a structure that  both facilitates and organizes at least three parkour motions that they select. The structure should transfer its loads to vertical surfaces.

While designing the structure, students are expected both to consider the human scale, body proportions, as well as the structural scale and the motion oriented space, incorporating the principles that they’ve learnt previously.

Section drawing

for monday 12 may, you are required to draw two sections of your design in 1/100 scale (or 1/50 if you need). these sections should reflect what we cannot easily perceive in your models, and demonstrate the sectional organization of your spaces. you can use and mix any technique you want (pen / pencil, charcoal, markers, collage etc.).
it might also help to take a look at others' drawings for inspiration. to start with, see here and here.
